1. It’s the notion of mercy that leads us to the atonement, and it is the atonement that provides a foundational basis for the justification of sinners.
  2. Increasingly, to forgive is seen as winking at evil, as shrugging one’s moral shoulders, and as being complicit.
  3. The power of the Word of God is the power of God himself, for he is always faithful to his Word.
  4. We did not say “Goodbye” to our son on the day of his burial. We said, “Luke, we’ll see you soon.”
  5. Don't lose hope. Don't avoid church on Sunday morning.
  6. God’s goodness spoke a promise of peace and mercy to the bewildered, a promise that rings out to this day.
  7. Our comfort in this seemingly endless age of crisis after crisis is the inexhaustible hope of Jesus’s reversal.
  8. In Jesus, the most totalizing summary of the law becomes the gospel of the one made perfect through obedience.
  9. Christian mercy should not seek its own. It must be round, and open its eyes and look at all alike, friend and foe, as our heavenly Father does.
