1. While the insights in each chapter are uniquely personal to the individual writers, the overarching theme is one of the sufficiency of Christ.
  2. Martha’s pain is not met by a to-do list. Jesus’ reply is not that she should try harder or change her behavior
  3. The cross is not some mystic metaphor for the change we must undergo before our self-realization, but the earth-shattering event that changed the course of eternity.
  4. This year, I’m more excited for Epiphany than I am for Christmas.
  5. The well-meaning advice “time heals all wounds” is offensively false when we confront the overwhelming evidence that the constants in our lives are death, taxes, and suffering.
