  2. We live again, not so that we will now pay our debt, but to proclaim that we live because our debt was paid!
  3. From the beginning to the end of his letter, John really wants one thing: for us to be in Jesus.
  4. Through water, blood, and word, the Spirit never stops pointing us to Christ, and even more, giving us Christ.
  5. Even though All Saints is a day for remembering the dead, it is not a day of mourning.
  6. The reason that God’s commandments are not burdensome is that Jesus has fulfilled them.
  7. Both now and forever, the bruised and crucified Lord nailed to a cross is our assurance of deliverance.
  8. Righteousness before God is possessed only by grace and that through the currency of faith.
  9. The love mentioned in 1 John 4:15-21 fourteen times (!) is a love that needs no apology but is determined at all times to sacrifice for the other.
  10. Sometimes in hanging on to our useless guilt, we are idolaters. We believe our sin or conscience is more powerful than our God.
  11. We can appreciate what we have received from God, we can receive it all as free gift, but only when we stop investing in fool's gold.
