1. Even as he was dying, the heart of God poured itself out for the sake of sinners.
  2. I think the problem with the idea of eternity is that we do not have any direct experience of it, but we encounter enough of its possibility to be unsettling.
  3. Repentance is meaningless unless we are willing to acknowledge who we are: sinners needing mercy.
  4. The usual acclamation when one becomes King is: “Long live the King!” But this King of kings, this son of David, has come to die.
  5. The nefarious thing about idolatry is that just about anything can become your idol: career, family, fame, wealth, status, spouse, you name it, any good thing can become a ‘god-thing” with ease.

  7. It is terribly easy to set up our theology as a buffer against the real coming of the Lord and its consequences.
  8. Every incendiary move of God’s Spirit is accompanied by a group of penitent people rediscovering the power and preeminence of God’s Word.
  9. The reason that God’s commandments are not burdensome is that Jesus has fulfilled them.
  10. Both now and forever, the bruised and crucified Lord nailed to a cross is our assurance of deliverance.
