1. Faith is like a horse with blinders because it only beholds God’s promise. It is obsessed with what God has already said.
  2. Sometimes I think we should be more tempted to laugh at the gospel than we are, not in derision but in sheer surprise and awe.
  3. With Christ as the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, the future is secure already. It’s solid right now, even when the cords seem to be fraying.
  4. History is the painful realization that we aren’t the ones who can save the world but, rather, we’re the ones who get saved.

  10. Our only hope in life and death is that God loves sinners, who fail and forget constantly, with a love that is just as constant.
  11. If you want something empty, the tomb is the way to go. The point of the manger is that Jesus was in it. The point of the cross is that Jesus was on it.
  12. Your loving Lord is not oblivious to your pain and sadness.
