1. When standing in line, or when the commercial comes on, or when a moment of boredom comes, fast and pray instead of reaching for the screen. Be reminded that the world is not an oyster to be shucked, but a place where the gifts of redemption are already open.
  2. Faith holds on to the truth of who Jesus is revealed to be, despite our sometimes incongruent experience with God.
  3. The anticipation of Advent is supposed to build us up, not make us exhausted.
  4. The Nicene Creed is the gospel distilled—a refined and concentrated byproduct of Scripture’s own witness to the grace and power of God in Jesus Christ.
  5. Protestants, in my view, don’t suffer from a Goldilocks problem. They have an arrogance problem.
