1. This is the message of Lent. We are not called to sacrifice for Jesus in order to earn our salvation. Rather, we are called to remember the sacrifice that Jesus made for us.
  2. Predestination, Jim knew, is no longer a frightening doctrine of mystery when you understand that God makes his choice about you in the simple word of God, given from one sinner to another.
  3. Jesus not only healed her daughter, but he also gave himself to her. Wherever she went from then on, he was with her.
  4. The lesson of Malachi reveals God’s love for his people. When the people ask for proof of God’s love, he reminds them of their election.
  5. Help comes for those who cannot help themselves. When we bottom-out and come to the end of ourselves, that is where hope springs.
  6. Both now and forever, the bruised and crucified Lord nailed to a cross is our assurance of deliverance.
  7. Every day is a Sabbath for Christians. Every day is the day the Lord has made. Every day is a day to find rest in Christ.
  8. Righteousness before God is possessed only by grace and that through the currency of faith.
  9. Sometimes in hanging on to our useless guilt, we are idolaters. We believe our sin or conscience is more powerful than our God.
  10. We can appreciate what we have received from God, we can receive it all as free gift, but only when we stop investing in fool's gold.
  11. To say that whoever loves has been born of God is also to say that those who are born of God are recipients of love. They do not have God because they love but because they are loved.
