  1. One great thing about our post-denominational age is that it has opened up opportunities to make common cause with other Lutherans who, despite their differences and eccentricities, can agree on some of the most important things.
  2. The Church’s unity is not uniformity in every matter of her well-being. It is faithfulness in what constitutes her being.

  9. The Bible isn’t a set of moral examples or religious insights. It’s the record of God’s saving work, fulfilled in Christ, delivered now through words spoken and heard.
  10. American religion did not become optional because the gospel failed. It became optional because religion slowly redefined itself around usefulness.
  11. Bringing your family to church to receive “the one thing needful” (Luke 10:42) in Word and Sacrament honors and pleases God.
