Salvation (840)
  1. If the feeding of the 5000 invited an emphasis on Jesus’ COMPASSION, this week’s miracle invites a sermon focused on Jesus’ AUTHORITY.
  2. There is no justification except by faith alone. The radical forgiveness itself puts the old to death and calls forth the new.
  3. “Rembrandt goes so deep into the mysterious that he says things for which there are no words in any language.”
  4. The Gospels function like literary essays, composed with a specific thesis and purpose in mind. Each account of Jesus’s life acts as a treatise to show us something about the person and work of the Savior.
  5. The power of music: a natural expression of the children of God! Repent and believe the good news.
  6. Jesus’ miracle in this sermon, then, is a type of the compassion He has for your hearers. While they certainly have many physical needs, your hearers also (more fundamentally) need Jesus’ mercy and forgiveness.
  7. He is our gold. He is our pure garment. He is our healing. He is our sanity. He is our wholeness.
  8. These parables invite us to consider the mysterious way of the reign of God. The Kingdom of God comes by grace to those who are seeking and not seeking it.
  9. The good news of Jesus Christ guides us into godly worship, not self-worship.
  10. By basing our assurance on the promises of God, which we not only hope for in the future but live in now, the Christian can finally rest in the comfort that they are both saved and not responsible for their own salvation.
  11. On this episode of the Soul of Christianity Debi and Dan chat with David Zahl of Mockingbird Ministries. Dave, Debi, and Dan talk about life in quarantine, Dave’s faith journey, and the good news of the Gospel for our time.
  12. In Christ, God promises to forgive sin and bring about new life: Life after being canceled.
