Preaching (2172)
  1. Proclaim the person and work of Jesus Christ for the salvation of your hearer. If it is good enough for the Athanasian Creed, it is good enough for your pulpit.
  2. People live and move in story, and the effect of story is that it creates distance for them rhetorically which makes the hearer feel safe to explore and cared for by the preacher.
  3. The same words of hope and peace that were entrusted to Israel are available to all, to “everyone who believes” (Acts 10:43).
  4. What Moses suffered in a limited way Christ actually endured fully on our behalf!
  5. Those whose lives matter to Jesus show others how they, too, matter. This is part of the Christian’s evangelical witness, to value the people in our world who feel like they have no value.
  6. The Spirit is not the endpoint of the sermon, but the means by which this name is delivered and confessed.
