  1. In Advent we wait, in Christmas we rejoice over the coming of Christ in the fulfillment of the promises, and in Epiphany we celebrate the surprise, the manifestation of Christ to the Gentiles.
  2. The irony of our idolatry is that many of our idols could and would speak the gospel to us if we would listen.
  3. Death may speak, and its voice may sound authoritative and decisive. Nonetheless, it is a mere whimper from the grave.
  4. When we stop looking to Christ in faith, we are walking in sin. Anything (including our supposed law-keeping) that does not proceed from faith is sin.
