  1. You are the baptized, for in Christ we are all wet. The demographic dividers are washed away.
  2. Righteousness before God is possessed only by grace and that through the currency of faith.
  3. St. Paul extends to us the call to arms. In particular, there is one weapon which is effective against so elusive an enemy. The weapon is prayer.
  4. Being the baptized just may be the last, great resistance.
  5. The good news is Christ Jesus is faithful to the end, even to the point of death and through death, with a steadfast and vocal faith in God our Savior for those who cannot do so in their lives any longer on account of their altered state.
  6. We have the Gospel in Word and the Gospel in Sacrament. Both are poised to declare the peace of the Lord, the good news of God’s forgiveness because of the life, vicarious atonement, and resurrection of Jesus the Son.
  7. Faithful preachers should remain steadfast in the biblical categories and terminology and preach the reality of death.
  8. It is that love, finally, which comes back again and again, not as an afterthought, but as the underlying theme of the entire section.
