1. Christ saves the world even now from judgment and preserves it moment-by-moment for the potential salvation of many and, ultimately, the created order itself.
  2. During the last days, among the faithful, the resurrected Jesus is present in self-donation to assure the baptized that we ourselves are already participating in the new creation through Holy Baptism.
  3. Whatever conclusions one may have regarding the earth and redemption, they must be understood as a consequence of the ongoing work and reality of the incarnate Son of God.
  4. There is a better way to preach the End Times that has nothing to do with Left Behind series scenarios. The key is no secret at all. Follow where Christology leads.
  5. Morons though we all have been, there is nothing we need that Christ hasn’t given us.
  6. By his first Advent in the flesh, through his second Advent with bread and wine and water and Word, we await his third Advent at the end.
  7. The waiting of Advent isn’t just for Christmas; it’s for God’s reversal of all sin and evil and his renewal of all things.
  8. That is the task of preaching in these last weeks of the Church Year, to enable the people given to our care, to praise God from the perspective of the end when our Lord will return in glory bringing us into His Kingdom of glory.
  9. This is the patient love of God. He is stubborn about the salvation of sinners. He will not be rushed even if his name is mocked, and the trustworthiness of his promises are called into question.
  10. The Advents of Christ (past, present, and future) elicit faith in the word of Christ, confirmed by his presence.
  11. Getting ready for Christ’s coming is a practice in humility.
  12. “The days are coming,” and God said it. God, who kept his promise that Christ would come at Christmas.
