Preaching (2208)
  1. Jesus is showing the disciples that humility is not only about how we present ourselves before God. It also has to do with our love and service to the least among us.
  2. Christians are called to love even amid imperfect institutions, imperfect marriages and families, imperfect churches and congregations, and called to love even in our clunky and imperfect society.
  3. Like petulant children they bemoan their lot and continue to question their very existence. Nevertheless, God loves His wayward children.
  4. Jeremiah wants us to see there is life beyond Babylon, and it is a life beyond sin, guilt, and despair.
  5. Paul is not telling Christians to go searching for extraordinary opportunities to demonstrate holiness. Instead, he fills the ordinary relationships God has already assigned with extraordinary mercy.
  6. The reign of Christ is cruciform. Jesus ushers in His reign through a cross. His reign is spread by those who follow Him bearing a cross.
  7. Identity is a gift from God given in Christ Jesus that forms our life as God’s people, that is, His Church.
  8. The Christian walks into every station of her life, not seeking opportunities to prove herself, but, rather, opportunities to embody the mercy that first claimed her.
  9. God often chooses the foolish things in the world and the things that are considered naught to communicate His great grace for us sinners.
