Preaching (2008)
  1. What does Jesus’ identity as Son of God and son of Mary say to those who feel the burden of figuring out for themselves who they “really” are?
  2. Sometimes the answer God gives to our “ask” means the end of what we want and the advent of what He wants for us and the world.
  3. The consequences of Christmas are severe, and they do not stop in the little town of Bethlehem.
  4. We receive everything we need for our life and salvation from our Messiah Jesus. Think about how much He takes on just to have us.
  5. It is in the gritty that the Lord Jesus reveals Himself; always in the low, the palpable, the material, the immanent, inviting you to guide your own sermon for this Sunday after Christmas in the direction of delivering the grit.
  6. As we hear what God is doing, we begin to realize how true freedom and joy in this life are not about managing our reality but, like Joseph, about faithfully receiving what God is doing.
  7. When God is truly present among us, how can we not, in turn, respond with love for Him?
  8. How does God meet you in unexpected ways today? How does God meet you with unexpected grace?
