  2. This is a salutary commemoration of the confession we share, and an opportunity to give thanksgiving to Jesus for choosing this holy man of God to receive, believe, and share the gospel of our salvation!
  3. It is hard to believe, but somehow it is better for followers of Jesus that Jesus has gone away. Otherwise, the Spirit would not have come.
  4. Like John, we know some things about Jesus, and the things we know are very important. But there are other things about Jesus and His ways which elude us.
  5. What does Jesus’ identity as Son of God and son of Mary say to those who feel the burden of figuring out for themselves who they “really” are?
  6. The consequences of Christmas are severe, and they do not stop in the little town of Bethlehem.
  7. As we hear what God is doing, we begin to realize how true freedom and joy in this life are not about managing our reality but, like Joseph, about faithfully receiving what God is doing.
  8. Christ did not merely urge humanity to be kind. He embodied perfect kindness by giving his life for those who neither earned nor expected such a gift.
