  1. To know the cure is not to become immune to sorrow.
  2. The danger is not destruction. It is reduction.
  3. The Church needs mystics again. Not fringe figures, but saints ablaze with love.
  4. Belief at Christmas is neither neat nor safe. It is the path that leads to the manger and, from there, to the cross.
  5. The world rushes forward, lighting up screens and decking out storefronts in a mad sprint toward the next thing, but Advent pulls us back.
  6. Now that the Lord of Sabaoth has involved himself, something ends, something is born.
  7. God chose Russell Brand, chose to defy his fast-escaping life and drink up all his swift-running sin in the River Thames.
  8. We are the fruit that grows from the branch, which extends from the trunk of the tree, which is rooted in the soil that it grows out of, which is all Christ.
  9. Jesus will lead us through the deep waters onto the dry land of that celestial shore, where he will wipe away every tear from our eyes.
  10. God knows that when we face insurmountable odds in our moments of weakness, we are more likely to turn to him in trust and reliance.
  11. It is of the utmost importance that pastors teach their congregation that through faith in Jesus Christ, they are fortified against the machinations of the adversary.
  12. The Holy Spirit unleashes his power through us, his vines, and we then get to watch as his fruits blossom and ripen.
