1. He is not ashamed to call us brothers and sisters, even as we curse and yell at him for not pleasing us with our pettish wishes.
  2. God not only unites us to himself by the death and resurrection of his Son; he unites us, the church, together and to himself under Christ as his children.
  3. He would not go back on his word, for his word is the word of the Father and the Spirit, and they all say “come.”
  4. His kingdom is not one of force and might for our exploitation and his gain, but one of his patience and long-suffering for our benefit.
  5. How can we know the mysterious workings of God? We look to Jesus: Jesus does His job of Jesus-ing only the way He can Jesus. Jesus never did His Messiah work the way that people thought that He should, and nothing has changed. We are blessed that He is not a God created of our own image and imagination. All of this is revealed to us through the God’s word alone, and in that word we have comfort of what Christ has done for us.
  6. Craig and Troy wrestle with the same issue Paul is wrestling through: Wanting our friends and family to be saved and knowing that salvation must come through Christ. As the Prodigal Son believed in his father’s goodness and returned, so too will God restore and graft in all who believe—both Jew and Gentile alike—in His Son Jesus Christ.
  7. Craig and Troy talk quite a bit about grace. God always keeps (and always has kept) for Himself a remnant chosen by grace. This is good news for we are not left alone in this world without other believers to encourage and strengthen our faith.
  8. All family trees and genealogies reveal awkward knots and twists. But through the root of Jesse, and the line of Israel, came Jesus to offer us a new name.
  9. Our crucified Lord makes it clear that the widow’s worthless giving was far greater than a million dollars because she gave all she had.
  10. Our goal is to proclaim the genuine good news—that’s what “Gospel” means—of Christ’s forgiveness for you. We do not offer you better tips, techniques or checklists. Instead, You Are Forgiven is sermons by faithful pastors who will clearly show how you cannot be forgiven by your own efforts, no matter how well you do on your homework, your checklist of tasks. But they will also show how you are actually and already forgiven because Jesus has done all that is needed, for you!
  11. When I was a boy, I wanted to be a trashman. Little did I know that I would grow up to need a God who was a trashman.
  12. This rather unique human being is God grounded in our humanity. The man Jesus.
