As a woman who has suffered years of abuse, there have been times in my new life when I have found myself living out Psalm 6:6.

People have often tended, quite wrongly, to view me as saintly. I attribute that undeserved reputation to the fact I have always had a very strong sense of the kind of person I should be.

Bloody, bruised, and burnt out—our friends, family members, and coworkers are walking out of churches, giving up on God’s family, and at the same time giving up on the message that the Church has been entrusted with.

Wouldn’t it be great if there were something that could de-shame us?
