  1. On account of God’s graciousness in Jesus, we are the ones who don’t do anything
  2. Paul roots the Christian’s death to the law in baptism and makes a scandalous claim that the law arouses sin in people.
  3. Both these words, Law and Gospel, are from God. The sinner needs both of them. Both are true and good.
  4. Psalm 51 teaches two things: mercy and sin. But aren’t we already experts in sin? Why do we need God to teach it to us?
  5. Galatians 5 isn’t a move beyond Christ to the Christian life. Galatians 5 is the Christian life in Christ.
  6. It’s been my experience that All Saints’ Day, celebrated on November 1st and observed on the first Sunday following, gets overshadowed by the celebration of Reformation Day.

  10. We should take great care in observing how the psalmist relates to God. Our eyes and hearts should be open to seeing what the psalmist appeals to and how he addresses God.
