  1. Because Christ has already said, “Yes,” on your behalf, you are free, indeed, called to say no...sometimes...
  2. When we despair of ourselves, we repent of these self-justifying schemes and allow ourselves to be shaped by God, covered in Christ’s righteousness, and reborn with a new heart.
  3. This is the aim of a day of repentance: To come face to face with God and, therefore, face to face with our sin.
  4. The account of the transfiguration of Jesus is indeed about His transfiguration. But, in a way, it is also about the transfiguration of everything else.
  5. Transfiguration looks like one thing. The majesty mockery of Christ’s passion looks like another.
  6. Seasonally, the text forms a bridge to the ascent of Jesus to Mount Tabor and, ultimately, to Calvary, so we can receive the Gospel of God which saves us.
  7. How can you get a righteousness which exceeds that of the most works obsessed Israelites and Pharisees and scribes?
  8. Yes, for a moment, Jesus asks the crowds to stop and to look at this beautiful vision. He offers a scenic outlook to the inhabitants of this world.
