TOPIC INDEXJesus Christ (149)
Donavon Riley
  1. People do not seek the gospel because they want to, but because God’s Word drives them to it.
  2. To a world enslaved to time (because it has no future), the Church's disregard for clocks and calendars is ridiculous.
  3. Jesus overcame sin, death, and Satan on the cross. His bloody suffering and death marked this sinful world's defeat.
  4. God's justice is marked and measured by sacrificial love, not power as the world defines it.
  5. Unlike human marriage, which is marred by sin, Jesus never seeks to divorce us due to irreconcilable differences.
  6. We need a God who acts for us, each of us in particular. We need a God who sticks to His Word that He will never abandon or forsake us.
  7. God uses the fifth commandment to protect us from selfishness, prevent us from only thinking about our needs, and to drive us to Christ and our neighbors.
  8. Jesus will strengthen and encourage us because he is true life, and life has defeated death.
  9. In God's way of doing salvation, we see Jesus crucified and risen from death. We see in Jesus God's great mercy and the depths of our selfish sinfulness.
  10. The kind of love we crave, that we will go to any lengths to find, is already present for us here and now. The Lord's love for us reaches into our hearts and soul.
  11. No matter how great our thirst is, God's abundance not only meets it but quenches it. When we are poor and in need, the Lord is always there to give us grace and mercy without end.
  12. "Whom shall we fear?" We fear no one. We're not afraid of anything. Instead, we wait for the Lord with good courage. He will strengthen our hearts, as the psalmist writes (Ps 27:1).
