  1. All the verbs of our salvation are passive. God calls and gathers people to him through his Gospel.
  2. Hope doesn’t bury its head in the sand but stares, open-eyed, into the truth of this life’s worst horror, and says, “I know the God who went through something even worse, and came out on top.
  3. As I was reading Romans 7 today, I was reminded of a pivotal scene in one of my favorite movies, As Good As it Gets.
  4. The miracle of Pentecost is not obvious; it is the miracle of faith created through the preaching of the word of the cross.
  5. Our Father works through us to meet the needs of others and to meet our need for Savior Jesus.
  6. I don’t know about you, but I am perpetually of the mind that God is disappointed in me.
  7. The veil was not torn to let us in but to let God out.
  8. The law demands love, and love has no limits, no end, it is never done.
  9. Our goal is to proclaim the genuine good news—that’s what “Gospel” means—of Christ’s forgiveness for you. We do not offer you better tips, techniques or checklists. Instead, You Are Forgiven is sermons by faithful pastors who will clearly show how you cannot be forgiven by your own efforts, no matter how well you do on your homework, your checklist of tasks. But they will also show how you are actually and already forgiven because Jesus has done all that is needed, for you!

  11. The absence of a feeling is not the absence of Christ, but as emotional, rational, and spiritual beings, we cannot say that the presence of Christ necessitates the absence of emotion.
  12. We are no longer controlled by sin as He moves our lips to speak love and forgiveness. We are passive as He acts out His words and His salvation for us.
