Gospel (989)
  1. The religious leaders thought Jesus was threatening to tear down the Temple. Instead, He was expanding it, so it encompassed and served the world.
  2. The parable, like a cubist painting, is disorienting. And finding a reasonable explanation is not going to make the disorientation go away.
  3. Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough! In this episode, we continue our conversation about repentance, reading Rev. Dr. James Nestingen’s article on the Gospel and Repentance. We discuss Luther's view of the Gospel’s relationship to repentance, preaching a doable law, and what awaits those who leave the Church in a state of unrepentance. This and much, much more on this week’s episode of the podcast.
  4. The love of God here is amazing. Jesus warns them of God’s judgment in order that He might save them from sin.
  5. For those who hear the Father’s Word of forgiving love in Christ, the “I will not” changes to an, “I will.”
  6. We expect God to be at least as fair our society. But that is not how God operates.
  7. Peter asks the kind of question asked by those who keep records, who keep score. Which reminds me that we are a score-keeping people.
  8. Jesus is showing the disciples that humility is not only about how we present ourselves before God. It also has to do with our love and service to the least among us.
