The Law (135)
  1. Like the Pharisees, as well-meaning, contemporary Christians we too can often add fences to God’s Law.
  2. Some things, once they are deemed disgusting or contaminated, permanently carry that quality with them. These things are even thought to be “contagious,” negatively affecting whatever they come into contact with.

  4. The Gospel is our freedom from sin. It is Christ in the mirror, Christ for me and for you.
  5. Rather than calling me to pick burrs off my coat, God’s love strips me of my delusions and cuts to the heart of my disease.
  6. Paul is headed out, but there seems to be some contradictions concerning whether God wants him to go or not. How do we deal with these texts?
  7. What we notice less often is that this same fear wonders about both the efficacy of the Gospel and the Law.
  8. Love is the sum of the law. Love God with all your heart, spirit, and mind, and love your neighbor as yourself. That means that if love can't be done when it needs to be done then get rid of the law, because it's not lawful.
  9. Hurricane Florence, or any natural disaster, can serve as a painful reminder of our own mortality, the futility of human ingenuity and strength.
  10. My biggest criticism of Peterson’s mantra is that it seems to be exclusively a message of Law in a world in desperate need of grace.
  11. The early church battles legalism as the Gentiles are brought in. A council is formed and Peter takes a stand.
