Second Coming (33)
  1. Christ is the crisis-point of salvation and judgment for the entire world, and for your hearer this week.
  2. Your proclamation must not be about their performance but about the one thing that truly matters: Christ alone is their Master. And this Master has purchased them and made them His servants.
  3. That is the task of preaching in these last weeks of the Church Year, to enable the people given to our care, to praise God from the perspective of the end when our Lord will return in glory bringing us into His Kingdom of glory.
  4. As we do our part in the mission of our Master, we join with all believers to keep a constant and uninterrupted vigil until the great day of His return.
  5. Why make Christmas a time of rushing and dashing around, when instead we could enter into a quiet time of the waiting of Advent?
  6. All Christian preaching is done in view of the eschatological horizon as we proclaim the Lord who will return as the Judge of all in glory who can no longer be contradicted or denied.
  7. Christ saves the world even now from judgment and preserves it moment-by-moment for the potential salvation of many and, ultimately, the created order itself.
  8. During the last days, among the faithful, the resurrected Jesus is present in self-donation to assure the baptized that we ourselves are already participating in the new creation through Holy Baptism.
  9. Whatever conclusions one may have regarding the earth and redemption, they must be understood as a consequence of the ongoing work and reality of the incarnate Son of God.
  10. There is a better way to preach the End Times that has nothing to do with Left Behind series scenarios. The key is no secret at all. Follow where Christology leads.
  11. Morons though we all have been, there is nothing we need that Christ hasn’t given us.
