Pentecost (733)
  1. I would encourage the preacher attracted to an opportunity to harangue his hearers because of perceived or known indiscretions of gossip and the like to, once again, resist for the sake of the entire community. As always, focus on the Christ.
  2. The people of God have experienced millennia of the gap, waiting and longing for restoration, so naturally they are astonished when they get a glimpse of the Kingdom.
  3. God has given us a great gift through Christ Jesus. He has forgiven us and declared us righteous and holy. He now blesses us by calling us to serve Him in the lives of those around us.
  4. He is a God who changes curses into blessings. We see that clearest in Jesus, whose life, ministry, atoning death, and glorious resurrection is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
  5. Our lingering sinful nature does not defeat or negate the work of Jesus. In Him, we are perfectly righteous, despite the sin which clings so closely.
  6. Like a good field general, to conclude his epistle, Paul equips us for battle. He gives us the gifts and the armor we need to “stand against the schemes of the devil."
  7. God does not leave His people alone, to find their own way and stumble around in the dark. The Lord goes with them in His Word.
