1. The relationship with God through Christ and renewal in his image in Christ cannot be taken away or compromised through suffering.
  2. In the Word, you find peace. It proclaims peace first between you and God because of Jesus. That empowers you to deal peacefully with others and brings you peace of mind.
  3. Who would ever want all these screamers and haters? It turns out that Christ does.
  4. When we cry to the Lord in our trouble, he will send us a preacher with words that deliver us from destruction.
  5. Grace remits sin, and peace quiets the conscience. Sin and conscience torment us, but Christ has overcome these fiends now and forever.
  6. As Christians, we rest in the finished work of Christ on the cross, and we yearn for our neighbor to be reconciled to God, to know the peace that we are resting in.
  7. The title “peacemakers” is not ours except as we tell and retell his peacemaking story.
  8. What is it, though, that makes bedtime so fraught with anxiety?
  9. For those of us who recognize the disciples’ despair in ourselves, Jesus comes with the same word: “Relax, it’s me. Peace be with you.”
  10. It’s God’s love that sets us free to love in the first place.
  11. Jesus offers to the anxious soul the one thing it ironically wants: certainty of the good.
  12. Though envy whispers to us that peace can only be found by “keeping up,” Jesus whispers to us a better word: “Come to me all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest.”
