Advent (335)
  1. As we hear what God is doing, we begin to realize how true freedom and joy in this life are not about managing our reality but, like Joseph, about faithfully receiving what God is doing.
  2. When God is truly present among us, how can we not, in turn, respond with love for Him?
  3. There is a hiddenness to the splendor of the Messianic reign and rule of God for now that will only be seen fully on the final day.
  4. Knowing the coming Judge as the one who endured for me changes the waiting of endurance into, indeed, a “we can hardly stand the wait.”
  5. Faint of heart or strong, Advent finds us all in a world that shakes our faith and drives us to wonder about the work and promises of this God who claims to love us.
  6. This ancient “tale of two mothers” concerns far more than theological semantics—it is the difference between a God who sends and a God who comes.
  7. Today on the Christian History Almanac, we head to the mailbag to answer a question about questionable Christmas carols.
  8. The Baptizer is a prophet who has more of the Word of God in his pointer finger than most preachers have in their whole body!
  9. This text invites you and your people to see in the Christ not only the welcome but the inspiration to welcome the other, indeed the enemy, not simply to put up with, but to love.
