Advent (335)
  1. There is a hiddenness to this revelation of God’s reign and rule. It appears first like a shoot and ends with the reign of this Davidic messiah over a peaceable kingdom of opposites.
  2. The Spirit who inspired the prophets and apostles to put God’s Word into human language has guided and guarded their transmission in the course of human history preserving them for the sake of the Gospel.
  3. Pagan Neart, Christian Soul. In this episode, we read C.S. Lewis’ “A Christmas Sermon for Pagans.” Why does the post-Christian person need to become pagan again to be prepared to hear the gospel? How has a mechanistic view of nature led us to kill each other? Why do we reject the good news that Jesus ended the need for guilt-offerings, sin-sacrifices, and fear about the afterlife? What happened as a consequence of moderns pushing heavenly truth out of the material world? What is the message of Christmas that offers a cure for all that ails us?
  4. I find myself returning to the Nicene Creed this Advent season
  5. This is an excerpt from this year’s 1517 Advent Devotional.
  6. Today, on the First Sunday of Advent, on the First Sunday of the Church Year, Jesus invites us to bring to Him our humble places.
  7. The Christ of Romans 13:8-14 is the one who is returning to fulfill our salvation even as we wait, living with one another in Christian love.
  8. We are all waiting eagerly for the Christmas Manger in Advent, but we must see the Word made flesh’s (strange the think about) final destination.
