Vocation (674)
  1. Our goal is to proclaim the genuine good news—that’s what “Gospel” means—of Christ’s forgiveness for you. We do not offer you better tips, techniques or checklists. Instead, You Are Forgiven is sermons by faithful pastors who will clearly show how you cannot be forgiven by your own efforts, no matter how well you do on your homework, your checklist of tasks. But they will also show how you are actually and already forgiven because Jesus has done all that is needed, for you!
  2. As much as the devil and doubts may assail me, God has revealed Himself to me in His Word and answered these pesky questions.
  3. On episode SEVENTY-NINE of Let the Bird Fly! Mike and Wade hang in Wade’s backyard (this was record back when it was warm in Milwaukee still—too long ago!) to discuss an essay by J.P. Koehler, “Legalism Among Us.”
  4. The Gospel is our freedom from sin. It is Christ in the mirror, Christ for me and for you.
  5. The more that we hear the law, the more we recognize others as those who, like us, are torn and tattered by the wounds of sin and brokenness.
  6. We take what we perceive to be freedom and turn it into a new credo, a new law, an idol to be lifted up and lived out.
  7. It is only when individuals are bound together in community that they become fully human.
  8. On episode SEVENTY-FOUR of Let the Bird Fly! the guys are all back together for the first time in a long time.
  9. Gospel questions don’t get a Law answer. Religious questions beg for Law answers.
  10. I have been very busy lately, trying to understand things.
  11. They say girls in our society should have nothing to worry about. They should have the opportunity for education and choices far beyond generations before.
  12. Love is the sum of the law. Love God with all your heart, spirit, and mind, and love your neighbor as yourself. That means that if love can't be done when it needs to be done then get rid of the law, because it's not lawful.
