Theology of the Cross (154)
  1. God is the God of failures, for He became one for you. There is no failure of ours that is bigger than Jesus’ cross, no sin of ours that can overshadow the cross.
  2. Nicodemus, like us, does not really have phantoms and dragons in his head. He has just one demon, one virus, one malady: he lives in fear.
  3. God’s telling a joke. And after we’re done laughing at this silly divinity, we realize that the true joke is on us.
  4. We all look forward to Lent’s conclusion and the celebration of Resurrection Sunday. This is the Sunday of victory and joy as the Church enters into the reality that Christ has defeated death and hell, declared victory over such enemies and set history on its final course of consummation.
  5. The Theology of the Cross is a recurring theme on the Thinking Fellows.
  6. “Putting hope in the cross of Christ means putting hope outside of anything – mentally, physically or even spiritually – you do.”
  7. On episode THIRTY of Let the Bird Fly! the guys abandon Peter, so he is forced to find something to talk about.
  8. We are forgiven for Christ’s sake. Losers set free to trust in God’s promises.
  9. There’s something very attractive about both the cross-ladder and the cross-crutches. In fact, there’s something about both of them that the woodworker within us finds eminently more appealing than the simple cross of Jesus.
  10. What does Jesus mean by "Taking up your cross and following Him?" Where is it that we die? Some will not see death until they Jesus in His glory.
  11. Ultimately, however, we find in the Heidelberg Disputation the root and core of Luther’s theology, which he would build and expound upon throughout his life.
  12. As long as we hold tight to a life that was never ours to possess in the first place, so long as we refuse to lay down our life so others can live, Jesus can't do a thing for us.
