  1. For Bonhoeffer, Christ crucified, and the cross of the Christian life were not of peripheral importance, but foundational.
  2. God is the God of failures, for He became one for you. There is no failure of ours that is bigger than Jesus’ cross, no sin of ours that can overshadow the cross.
  3. As the story unfolds we see Luther’s Heidelberg theses on display, even before the Fellowship leaves Rivendell.
