The Baptism of Our Lord (45)
  1. Like John, we know some things about Jesus, and the things we know are very important. But there are other things about Jesus and His ways which elude us.
  2. In the servant song of chapter 42, God responds to the people. He responds by choosing His humble Servant to bring the right way to God’s people and to all the nations. He gives them His word that the anointed (messiah) one will mercifully bring them back to God.
  3. As you look to the water of your own baptism, consider not that the water is wet, but, rather, that it is rich with the Word and promise of God for one reason only: Because Jesus is in that water.
  4. The Christ brings a baptism in order to gather all those sinners who are scattered across time and geography to be God’s people united in redemption and salvation.
  5. Jesus’ baptism ushers in more than only His own life of ministry, the reign of God come near. It opens the power of the baptism He received from God, the power of the Spirit with fire, to all the baptized.
  6. Luke tells us John “preached good news to the people.” Really? “Good” news?

  8. In today's episode of Tough Texts, Scott Keith and Daniel Emery Price discuss the ministry of John the Baptist in Matthew 3:1-17.
