Sanctification (166)
  1. Is this Christianity? Is this what the Bible describes as the gospel? Is the Christian life? A partnership with God where we fix up our old man? The simple answer is no.
  2. Far from being a Savior, the god of Unchristianity is a coach who whips us into moral shape, inspires us to be better people, serves as our example. The unspoken goal is to be so virtuous and free of sin that we don’t need Jesus anymore. The transaction is complete. Jesus is unemployed.
  3. Bonhoeffer’s simple little book makes clear how privileged many of us are to enjoy the Communion of the Saints here on earth.
  4. Yes, yes, we know YOU know exactly how to study your Bible, but in this episode Craig and Troy give you a method of Bible study that you can easily explain to others. Yeah . . . that's the ticket.
  5. Your faith is not dependent on whether or not you suffer well. Your faith is dependent on the fact that Christ did.
  6. The gospel is the good news that in Christ we have been given the very righteousness of Christ himself. This means that everything God commands of us is given to us in Christ as a gift.
  7. We confuse salvation and vocation in our quest to determine who is in control of our salvation.
  8. What then does this sequence of stories teach us? It teaches us a pertinent lesson about the Christian life.
  9. When we talk about bettering ourselves, we need to realize that a theology of the cross does not militate against this endeavor but that it places it squarely in the horizontal realm.
  10. “I forgive you,” must be said and it must be said often in a marriage.
  11. Humility kills pride. So “humble yourself before the Lord,” as James writes (Jas 4:10). Kill your pride before it kills the things you love. Subdue it before it gets you into the kind of trouble that may even kill you. Conquer your pride before it defeats you. It’s that simple, but we all know it’s not that easy.
  12. Paul says he hasn’t yet obtained perfection but is certain he will, but not because of anything he has done.
