Proclamation (169)
  1. The table is full-laden; feast ye all sumptuously. The calf is fatted; let no one go hungry away.
  2. The church is God’s flock. Jesus is both a lion and a lamb. The zoo turns out to be as packed with theology as a seminary, if not more.
  3. Many Christians (including preachers) have succumbed to the idea that good preaching must be about practical living, and so most sermons are geared to scratch this pragmatic itch.
  4. The side of God he has made known to us is Jesus. He is the one and only revelation of the Father, the one and only revelation we need.
  5. We need pastors who carry that same concealed weapon in their mouths, who are outfitted with the same word the angels have: the word steeped in divine blood, shed for you. That is all we need, for the word does it all.
  6. Real theologians can’t shut up about who Jesus is and what he’s done on your behalf. So-called theologians with little interest in Jesus may be book smart but they're Gospel stupid.
  7. God’s desire that all be saved led him to pay the price by which all are saved, all are justified.
  8. He lavishly pours out His rest in the waters of Baptism, in the spoken words of absolution from the pastor’s lips, in the preaching of the cross and resurrection, in the consumption of heavenly cuisine from the table at which He is host and meal.
  9. There are many funeral songs I wouldn’t be caught dead singing. Why? Because my funeral will not be about me.
  10. Why was Jesus crucified? Not to save victims, but to save sinners.
  11. We all began by hearing the truth, and then speaking the truth and believing the truth. That truth came to us on the lips of another.
  12. Episode 19 is a special show on preaching with guest Fellow pastor Paul Koch. The Fellows talk about what makes good preaching as well as what it means to be called to preach. Sit back, relax, grab a drink and enjoy the show.
