Pentecost (600)
  1. On this episode of Preaching the Text, Steve Paulson and John Hoyum unpack the story of the feeding of the 5000, or the multiplication of the loaves and fishes.
  2. But praise be to God, Christ has the last word on death and the word is “Resurrection.” Death is not a permanent form of bondage.
  3. Jesus called Peter to be a fisher of men so more people would be caught up in God’s gracious love through Jesus. But Peter needs to remember he is also one who needs to be caught-up in the same grace.
  4. They are not loved because of their value, rather their value comes only from His gracious declaration of who they are to Him. Israel’s character had nothing to do with God’s choice or declaration.
  5. The Earth itself, into which the blood of Christ seeped, will be redeemed and renewed, just like our spirits in Holy Baptism, and our bodies on the day of the resurrection.
  6. When we are not running ahead of Jesus, we might be in a better position to see Jesus: Crucified and risen for sinners, among whom I am the chief.
  7. In His crucifixion, He took the nails deep into and through His skin to put your salvation there permanently.
