New Testament (1485)

  2. This is theology of the cross. It is a treasure in jars of clay, surpassing power, and faith in folks like Timothy and Paul and in little old ladies like Eunice and Lois.
  3. The only God to invest in is Jesus Christ who bids us follow.
  4. God chooses the foolish things of this world to shame the wise, the poor people of this world to shame the rich, he identifies with sinners and He cannot seem to get enough of those the world ignores.
  5. Trusting the Master to show mercy, he shows mercy in the name of the Master.
  6. God in Christ shows us how to lift up holy hands.
  7. Preaching this text is to call for joy, joy for the fellowship that has been found, the fellowship that gathers together this very day.
  8. The sinner who soberly faces her sin has no place to run but to a savior, and the savior to run to is at the cross. The cross is where sin goes to die.
  9. Matthew’s gospel speaks the truth in love, and the truth it speaks is the dead and living Lord Jesus exclusively, and all nations, Jews and Gentiles, inclusively.
