New Testament (1597)
  1. The foundation of the faith Paul wants you to cling to is not an abstract principle, but a human body: the human body of Jesus, that once was a corpse, and now is alive forever more.
  2. Jesus curses our cultural expectations. He says "woe" to those who are rich, satisfied, joyful, and praised. The good life of our world is not good for discipleship.
  3. You can chain the messenger but not the message.
  4. The miraculous catch of fish happens not just once in the ministry of Jesus but twice. And, interestingly this miracle happens twice to the same person. Simon Peter.
  5. Paul imagines a time when we are no longer immature children, seeking to show off spiritually, but instead demonstrating the maturity that comes from edifying others.
  6. Introduction and first chapter of 2nd Timothy.
  7. The same Christ we proclaim to the people in our pews is the same Christ who is for those not in our pews.
  8. Paul has no interest in a love which does not find real traction in our daily lives.
  9. The conclusion of First Timothy.
