New Testament (1597)
  1. Nearly two thousand years after Paul scribbled out these lines, the only reason “we” are here, reading Paul’s magnum opus together, is that we are inheritors of the promise Paul sees in the paradox.
  2. As the greater and more faithful Son of God, Jesus did what the Israelites could not do. Neither can we.
  3. Introduction and first chapter of Titus.
  4. You have been given a glimpse of glory, the glory of forgiveness, that you can share with those around you in the world.
  5. Moses should receive honor, Jesus even more. Moses should be followed, Jesus even more. Moses should be trusted, Jesus most of all and above all else.
  6. In all seasons, preach the word.
  7. Death is not the continuation of an adventure; death is being planted in the ground. The adventure belongs to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come.
  8. By listing a series of situations in rapid succession, Jesus overwhelms us with how practical, how real, how tangible, how concrete, how utterly achievable life in the kingdom can be.
  9. Scripture gives you Jesus.
