New Testament (1592)
  1. Like a good field general, to conclude his epistle, Paul equips us for battle. He gives us the gifts and the armor we need to “stand against the schemes of the devil."
  2. This is one of the earliest bits of New Testament literature, and the words of this relative of our Savior are inspired and useful for teaching and reproof, for correction and training in righteousness.
  3. If you’re willing to except it, you’re greater than John the Baptist.
  4. The presence of traditions is not the problem. It is the way in which we experience them. And on this day, Jesus reminds us of His presence, so all of us experience His grace.
  5. Is this text about marriage or Jesus? The answer should be obvious by now: Yes!
  6. If you find yourself preaching through epistles for multiple weeks, maybe, just maybe, your hearer will find something familiar from last week in what you are talking about this week which piques their interest, and even whets their appetite for what else might be coming.
  7. Sparrows, division, and a prophet’s reward.
  8. But Jesus did not come to be a bystander to His own creation. No, He came to be a redeemer of His people and to rule over all as the Lord of creation.
