New Testament (1636)
  1. Gabriel appears to Mary with the shocking announcement that she is to be the mother of the Son of God. How should we view Mary?
  2. This text gives us only a glimpse, a preview, of God’s plan in Christ to restore his broken creation to its physical and social perfection.
  3. Imagine what it would be like if, when people in our community thought about this congregation, the first thing that came to mind was how forgiving we are.
  4. Daniel and Erick begin the Gospel of Luke in this episode. After some introduction, they discuss the promise of the birth of John the baptizer.
  5. Daniel and Erick wrap up Paul’s letter to the Philippians. He can “do all things through Christ”, what does that statement mean for him and us?
  6. No, we may not be casting out demons, but the battle continues and all of God’s people are involved in it. At baptism, we are taken from the Kingdom of Satan into the Kingdom of God.
  7. [Recall] the testimony of the martyrs. Hear the good news of St. Michael: Christ has conquered by His blood, and the Kingdom of God and His will shall, in fact, be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.
  8. Paul says he hasn’t yet obtained perfection but is certain he will, but not because of anything he has done.
  9. If anyone could be accused of squandering riches, it would be Jesus. The Pharisees have seen Him squander the blessings of God on tax collectors and sinners. He did it then. He does it now, for you and me.
  10. Paul calls teachers of certain doctrines “dogs” and “evil-doers” and says to be on the look-out for them.
  11. Jesus will be working in our feeble misguided efforts to reach out to the world. He governs our words and our deeds, no matter how awkward they might seem.
  12. Only true doctrine teaches people how to love God and others. Love is the best test for our theology, for true love and true doctrine go together.
