  1. When we say “forgiveness,” we mean, “Jesus.” When we say, “righteousness,” we mean, “Jesus.”
  2. We surrender confidence in God because we lack faith in Christ, and we lack faith in Christ because we rebel against the fact that each, single moment of self-destruction is nailed to that cross.
  3. Blood is the thing. In the Scriptures, sin must be covered or "atoned for" as it's called, by blood.
  4. John’s message doesn’t inspire religious leaders to repent. Instead, John’s message provokes them to resentment and rage.
  5. God's grace and mercy in Jesus Christ calls all sinners to a celebration. A "those who sat in darkness have seen a great light" kind of celebration.
  6. There are no shortcuts with Him. No life hacks. No tricks or changes we need to make to get on God’s good side. There’s just Truth, just Jesus.
  7. Often, when we talk about the Old Testament, we talk about God's promises and work for his chosen people, Israel.
  8. In the beginning, we read about the invention of religion. It begins simply enough in Genesis 3
  9. Nobody is going to crash Jesus’ wedding feast. Jesus is throwing the only party in town worth attending, and it’s going to be a celebration.
  10. Jesus’ forgiveness will not collapse. Jesus’ forgiveness will take us places our legs can’t take us.
  11. Would you go to the church on the corner knowing that the pastor is an ex-con?
  12. Jesus says that none of our goodness is good enough to pass muster. Likewise, none of our badness is bad enough to propel us outside Jesus’ death for sin.
