Easter Sunday (55)
  1. The empty tomb. The risen Christ. Satan’s defeat. Forgiveness of sins. The beginning of the new creation. It has all built up to this. It all flows from this. Christ is risen, indeed! Alleluia!
  2. All will see His coming. All will see you in your appearance with Him. Until then, hear Him: Christ is dead and risen. Hear Him about you too: You are dead, and you too are risen in Him.
  3. Jesus is alive! The message will and must always be that Jesus died and rose again. That is the full good news we need.
  4. The women at the tomb were surprised by Easter. Amazed and filled with wonder at Jesus' Easter eucatastrophe. And so are we.
  5. Unlike every other king in the line of David, unlike every other person on earth, Jesus, the King of kings, had died and risen again!
  6. These others do not get much attention. We do not know their names. We do not know their back stories. But they were there on Easter morning, and Luke wants his readers to know it.
  7. The story is not over, however, when they put Jesus in the tomb. The sacrifice is complete, and Jesus is still active.
  8. Through His death and resurrection Jesus will create a new community of mini-suffering servants founded on the righteousness that the Suffering Servant won for them.
  9. Reluctant as they undoubtedly were, the soldiers were the first witnesses who spread word that Jesus, who had been crucified, dead, and buried, was now alive and on the move.
