Christ in the Old Testament (198)
  1. At the Passover, when Jesus said, "Take, eat, this is my body... take, drink, this is the New Testament in my blood, which is given and shed for you for the forgiveness of sins," he wasn't inventing a "new" thing.
  2. The sweet aroma of the life, death, and resurrection of Christ overpowers the icy winds that seek to destroy.
  3. Often, when we talk about the Old Testament, we talk about God's promises and work for his chosen people, Israel.
  4. Jesus is the Word of God. God’s Word—on two legs (John 1:14). I’d read it in the first chapter of John’s Gospel many, many times.
  5. The Thinking Fellows are joined by Donavon Riley to talk about how Jesus is present and works through all the Scriptures. Inspired by the episode Scott and Donavon Talk About Everything, the Fellows cover OT prophecy and theophanies.
  6. For the past twenty years that I've been a Christian, I've not found any evidence in my reading of Judges 13-16 that qualifies Samson for the "book of faith" (Hebrews 11).
  7. Out of the corner of my eye, I can see that simple boy. An orange sky warms the deserted streets with the final glow of safe light.
  8. Old Testament narratives foreshadowed the gifts that our Father gives us in baptism.
  9. Read your life like a Hebrew, from the end to the beginning, and you will see that the last is first. The dead are alive, the cursed are blessed, the humble are exalted.
  10. To forget ourselves is to remember another, that is, to act in such a way that benefits them. That’s the problem: we don’t.
  11. I became like God’s child David, whom the Lord pardoned of his adultery and murder. I became like Noah, Abraham, Judah, Aaron, Gideon, and so many more wayward children.
  12. But in that quest for thou shalts and thou shalt nots, you’ll miss what really matters. You’ll trample the cross while racing for the tablets of stone. From the tale of Achan's theft, you’ll rob yourself of Jesus.
