Lectionary: Series A (751)
  1. Since we are accustomed to approaching these words of God with the certainty of sin in our minds, I would like to try approaching them with the certainty of salvation in mind.
  2. The whole Old Testament points to the promise of the Messiah Jesus. Even seemingly unclear passages are promises about Him.
  3. It is the Word that makes Christians, sustains Christians, and sends Christians back into the world to love their neighbors.
  4. We are waiting for a person, for His Son from Heaven. We are waiting for the Jesus who came once in humility to come again in glory.
  5. Better than Cyrus, Jesus has come to set the captives free indeed!
  6. The religious leaders thought Jesus was threatening to tear down the Temple. Instead, He was expanding it, so it encompassed and served the world.
  7. This doctor makes house calls. He enters our condition. He takes up our flesh. He bears our infirmities.
  8. The parable, like a cubist painting, is disorienting. And finding a reasonable explanation is not going to make the disorientation go away.
  9. Jesus is ours not because we are climbing the right ladder in the right way. Jesus is ours because He has given Himself to us.
  10. Here, we get a glimpse of the eschatological feast God throws for Christ and His bride the Church, where there are no wedding crashers allowed.
