  1. This sermon was originally given at Luther Seminary chapel on May 20, 1986.
  2. Continuing with the Sermon on the Mount, this episode of Preaching the Text examines Jesus' teaching of the law. Christ doesn't change the law of Moses or introduce a new law, but teaches the law to his hearers that had been in force since the beginning.
  3. Rightly distinguishing between law and gospel, as Paul helps us see in 2 Corinthians 3, is, quite literally, a matter of life and death.
