  1. Our goal is to proclaim the genuine good news—that’s what “Gospel” means—of Christ’s forgiveness for you. We do not offer you better tips, techniques or checklists. Instead, You Are Forgiven is sermons by faithful pastors who will clearly show how you cannot be forgiven by your own efforts, no matter how well you do on your homework, your checklist of tasks. But they will also show how you are actually and already forgiven because Jesus has done all that is needed, for you!
  2. Faith does not distinguish between worthy and unworthy, saint and sinner, great faith and anemic faith, it only focuses on Christ Jesus.
  3. “Putting hope in the cross of Christ means putting hope outside of anything – mentally, physically or even spiritually – you do.”
  4. The moral high ground isn’t anything to find comfort in. God gives us something better—Jesus.
  5. The words “gift of righteousness” will bring about two completely polar opposite feelings: One of Dread. One of Relief.
  6. Growing up, I dreaded the first Sunday of each quarter. Every time during the evening service, we would have Lord’s Supper after the sermon.
  7. His forgiveness gives us the courage to watch out for our neighbor in both the present and the future, and to act with wisdom while understanding failures are still ahead.
  8. The devil tempts us to hope in things that we can do.
  9. When I was about 10, I went on a hike with a boys brigade. We were all racing down this path at lunchtime when I decided to beat everyone to the bottom by deviating from the path.
  10. My parents will be the first to tell you, I can really put my foot in my mouth. I often don’t say the right thing.
  11. The Sixth Sense is a suspenseful and scary movie where a little boy is born with the strange gift of seeing dead people.
  12. How strange and yet how comforting: God prays to God for us, the Spirit to the Father. He sees through the fog of our emotions to what we truly need.
