Holy Spirit (391)
  1. As sinful humans, we are adept at taking what God gives as gift and making it into a work. Nowhere is this made more evident than in the universally misunderstood doctrine of sanctification.
  2. Our goal is to proclaim the genuine good news—that’s what “Gospel” means—of Christ’s forgiveness for you. We do not offer you better tips, techniques or checklists. Instead, You Are Forgiven is sermons by faithful pastors who will clearly show how you cannot be forgiven by your own efforts, no matter how well you do on your homework, your checklist of tasks. But they will also show how you are actually and already forgiven because Jesus has done all that is needed, for you!
  3. Jesus is our food and drink, our home and property, our all in all.
  4. Jesus is our food and drink, our home and property, our all in all.
  5. Repentance is not a call to improve. It is a call to die.
  6. God goes to work on us through His Word like a woodcarver chisels a block of wood.
  7. “We all partake of the one cup, the cup of blessing which we bless. This is not seen as a bunch of different cups, but as one cup, the same cup that Jesus blessed at the Last Supper.”
  8. In him, retribution is set aside. Forgiveness comes. A new order begins. Remember that God’s mission will prevail, because grace is in, with, and under the fabric of human history.
  9. A heart that wants nothing that is not from God can only occur by the Holy Spirit speaking the Gospel into our hearts.
  10. We are dangerously good at focusing on our exciting, or boring, walk of faith.
  11. Instead of burning them up with unquenchable fire, He comes in solidarity, to be God with us and God for us. Jesus is baptized into our life, so that He could gift us His life.
  12. You say: Since forgiveness depends on faith alone, why must one nonetheless do good works? Answer: If faith is of the true sort, it cannot be without good works, just as no good work can be where unbelief dwells.
