  1. This had been a lonely year, though. She could keep herself busy for a while with friends and she could distract herself for a few weekends by leaving town, but something was definitely missing.
  2. Some days, people need a touch. Not just any touch, but something that says, "I care about you, and I love you."
  3. The God who calls us to love our neighbor as ourselves will seem hopelessly out of touch with your insulated life of self-sufficiency.

  5. We have now reached a point where many believe so strongly in individualism that nothing else matters.
  6. Far from being un-Christian like, the discipline and training that go into learning and practicing various martial arts can have direct application to the spiritual discipline needed for the Christian life of faith characterized by Israel.
  7. You matter so much to God that he would rather die than lose you. You matter so much to Jesus that no suffering was too much, no deprivation too burdensome, no punishment too severe for him to endure to have you as his own.
  8. The side of God he has made known to us is Jesus. He is the one and only revelation of the Father, the one and only revelation we need.
  9. He holds you tight and loves you even as you weep and fight in his arms. His Son suffers alongside you as your brother in the flesh.
  10. We need pastors who carry that same concealed weapon in their mouths, who are outfitted with the same word the angels have: the word steeped in divine blood, shed for you. That is all we need, for the word does it all.
  11. One thing is for certain: my day was heaven compared to his. My minor headaches nothing compared to whatever he was going through.
  12. Jesus takes that burden away in the “I forgive you and them” and gives us His “light” burden.
